It’s that time of year again. Tomorrow is the first day of Black History Month. Here are four books to read to your kids. Don’t be afraid to take your time with these, and to sit with discomfort as you answer your kids’ questions.
Black History Month Reading Lists are a yearly tradition on the blog. Until now, I’ve featured mainly kids’ books, but this year, I want to share three titles for you, the adult, to read. I love good cover art, and two of the following titles have covers that are a treat for the eyes.
My 11-year-old daughter brought me Josephine: The Dazzling Life of Josephine Baker, by Patricia Hruby Powell, illustrated by Christian Robinson. She read it, then told me she wanted us to read it as a group for school.
This kid in particular has a pretty good track record of bringing me books that will supplement our school curriculum.
Have you heard of Ida B. Wells? I hadn’t. I found Discovering History’s Heroes: Ida B. Wells, Fighter for Justice, by Diane Bailey, in the kids’ biography section of our library.
