We celebrated Women’s History Month in March. If you’re like me, you might have missed it (along with St. Patrick’s Day, the first day of spring, and my sister’s birthday) with everything else that’s been going on.
The last day we visited our local library before it closed, there was a display by the registration desk full of books by women, and I picked up two. Oftentimes, when I “impulse buy” at the library, I have to return the books before I get to read them. These days are not like other days, and I am stuck indefinitely with the books I picked up on that last visit. I’ve slowly been making my way through them.

Each year, we have a homeschool history theme set out by our curriculum. The last couple of years, that theme has been Ancient Civ. On top of that, I like to add a second theme which we follow with picture books throughout the year. The past two years, we’ve focused on Black History as our second theme, and we’ve read a ton of great books featuring different Black folks who moved us forward. This year, our theme is Women’s Rights.
My first love is historical fiction, but I’ve read a fair number of futuristic books as well. In the past year I’ve read at least five titles that take place in the future. What stuck out to me in all this reading was that A. I need to find me some Utopian Futuristic lit. and B. Dystopian Futuristic Lit and Post-Apocolyptic Lit isn’t fun to read anymore. Don’t remember seeing any post-apocolyptic titles here? I felt so mixed after reading them that I opted not to write a post about it.
